Direct flights from Lagos to Freetown to commence – says Nigerian High Commissioner

Nigerian High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Henry John Omaku, has called on President Dr Julius Maada Bio to announce the commencement of Air Peace, a direct flight from Lagos to Freetown.

Air Peace is a Nigerian flight that flies to major cities in Nigeria at the lowest fares, and flies to Accra, Banjul, Dakar, Monrovia and to Dubai via Sharjah International Airport and connects to 23 other destinations.

Chief Minister Saffa calls for effectiveness in service delivery

Chief Minister Joseph Jusu Saffa has maintained without interruption his tour of ministries, department and agencies to enhance effectiveness in service delivery.

On Tuesday this week, he visited the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources on his third tour of the Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs).

The Chief Minister noted that his cardinal function is more of a facilitator and enhancer rather than a supervisor of Ministries to help them deliver on their sector plans and annual work programs.

Chief Minister Saffa requested from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources a time line on the delivery of the Ministry’s work program which he said will be on the automated dashboard that will soon be launched.

A Presidential Invite for the International Olympic Games in Japan

The Chairman of the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee, NOC, Dr Patrick Coker, has presented a letter of invitation from the International Olympic Committee, IOC chairman, Thomas Mark, to His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio, saying they will be honoured with his presence.

Introducing the delegation to the President, Minister of Sport, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, said the NOC executive had gone to brief State House about the upcoming International Olympic Games slated for July this year in Tokyo, Japan.

In his brief statement, Dr Coker said it was customary for the president of the IOC to invite all heads of state to the Olympic Games.

French Ambassador Designate to Sierra Leone, Marc Fonbaustier, residing in Conakry Guinea, has presented his letter of credence to His Excellency President Dr Julius Maada Bio during a short ceremony at the Credential Room at State House.

Sierra Leone and France have had a diplomatic relationship for a long time, almost soon after independence in 1961, and since then that friendship has flourished.

SLRA resumes Clearance of Right of way in the Western Area

The clearance of the Right-of-Way has resumed in the Western Area on Friday, 25 June 2021.  It will be recalled that the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has held regional engagements on the operations of the Authority and the clearing of the Right-of-Way following the initial challenges in the Western Area.

Last week’s engagement in Kenema brought together key stakeholders, including the Resident Minister - East, Paramount Chiefs, Local Council authorities, Civil Society, the Security Sector, Traders’ Council representatives and the media.
