Chief Minister Engages Clearing and Forwarding Sector Players

Atlantic Beach Hotel, Freetown, Tuesday 29 November 2022 - Chief Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, has engaged stakeholders in the clearing and forwarding sector to explore more robust ways of reviving the clearing processes at Queen Elizabeth II Quay and ensuring efficiency in government.

A build-up to the stakeholder engagement started with a consultation among key players in the sector on 9 November 2022, which was spearheaded by the Office of the Chief Minister and the Ministries of Finance, Trade, Transport and Aviation and private sector players. During those meetings, a term of reference was developed that led to the stakeholders’ meeting.

Judiciary of Sierra Leone Communications, Main Law Courts Building, Freetown, 29th November 2022: Supreme Court Judge, Honourable Justice Alusine Sesay has ended the November High Court Criminal Sessions in Freetown with ten convictions.
He also cautioned and discharged two of the accused persons.
Fifty-Eight (58) accused persons were tried for various offences ranging from Murder, Manslaughter, Conspiracy, Robbery with Aggravation, Wounding with Intent, Larceny, Sacrilege and Assault, among others.
22-year-old Osman Koroma pleaded guilty of the offence of Sacrilege. He was alleged to have on the 4th & 5th day of March 2022, in Freetown, Western Area of the Country, broke and entered the Church of Prayer and Solutions Ministries and stole one Amplifier, one Mixer, two fans, two mics, one roll carpet, all at the total value of Ten Million Five Hundred Thousand Leones old notes (Le 10, 500,000).

Her Majesty the Queen Consort, on Tuesday 28th November, 2022 hosted Mrs. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone, at a Buckingham Palace reception comprising a powerful galaxy  of distinguished women from around the world, including HM Queen Mathilde of The Belgians, HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, HRH the Crown Princess Mary of Denmark, and HRH the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa of Luxembourg.

Also in attendance were selected Secretaries of State, and government ministers as well as the Commonwealth Secretary General the Rt. Honorable Baroness Patricia Scotland.

The event which took place in an exclusive sector of the palace was organised to mark the United Nations Day for the fight to end violence against women- The “UNITE” campaign- which calls for global action to increase awareness and promote advocacy, “aims to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls around the world”.

The Director General of the Petroleum Directorate of Sierra Leone (PDSL), Mr. Foday Mansaray, at the opening ceremony of the Angola Oil & Gas (AOG) 2022 Conference and Exhibition, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Angola’s National Agency for Oil, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG) in a bid to forge partnerships with established African producers and unlock the full potential of Sierra Leone's national hydrocarbon resources.

Returning to Luanda for its third edition from 29th November to 1st December, AOG 2022, with the support of the Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, H.E. Diamantino Pedro Azevedo, and in partnership with the ANPG, AIDAC and the African Energy Chamber, this important event for Angola’s oil and gas industry provides the platform to address the most pressing matters in the country’s energy market as it strives to curb production decline; expand and promote exploration and new discoveries; ensure the participation of its population in its central economic engine; achieve fuel-independency through large-scale investments in refining capacity; diversify its economy; and addresses the narrative of a just energy transition by developing its natural gas resources and other alternative sources of energy to ensure economic development and widespread energy wealth

*Geneva, Switzerland, Tuesday 29 November 2021* - The IOM’s Council meeting at its 113th Session in Geneva unanimously elected Ambassador to Switzerland and Permanent Representative of Sierra Leone to the United Nations Office and other International Organisations, Dr Lansana Gberie, as the New Chairperson of its governing bureau on 29 November 2022, at the opening session of the council.

The 113th Session of Council commenced from 29 November and will conclude on the  2nd December, 2022 in a hybrid format in-person. 

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) meets in regular session once a year and in special sessions at the request of one-third of its members, the Director General or the Chairman of the Council in urgent circumstances.
