Information Minister Holds Fruitful Discussions with Egyptian Ambassador

Minister of Information and Communications, Mohamed Rahman Swaray and His Excellency Ambassador Maher Al-Mahdi Al-Sayed

The Minister of Information and Communications, Mr Mohamed Rahman Swaray on Wednesday 4th August, 2021 held fruitful discussions with the Egyptian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Maher Al-Mahdi Al-Sayed on the long standing  fraternal relationship between Sierra Leone and Egypt.

Welcoming the Minister at his Wilkinson Road office in Freetown, Ambassador Al-Sayed extended warm and hearty reception to the Minister stating that the bond between Egypt and Sierra Leone had started years back and that both countries have continued to enjoy the cordial cooperation. 

During the discussion, the Ambassador shared with the Minister information regarding the trainings, courses and other opportunities that Egypt is offering to Sierra Leoneans, but noted that COVID-19 has had negative impact on the implementation of these offers. He however, assured the Minister that once the pandemic subsides or is curbed, every activity of the Egytian Embassy in Freetown would return to normal.

The two leaders also discussed investment opportunities in the telecoms sector, and Ambassador Al-Sayed presented two Egyptian investors who have indicated intention to invest in the sector.

The Egyptian Ambassador concluded by appreciating the beauty of the beaches, the peaceful nature of the country and expressed his desire to visit the provinces.

In his remarks, Minister Swaray expressed his gratitude to the Ambassador for his warm welcome, and on behalf of H. E. the President and the people of Sierra Leone, appreciated the Egyptian Government and people for their numerous support to Sierra Leone. The Information Minister informed him that the vision of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio is to make Sierra Leone open for genuine win-win investment adding that the country is peaceful and open to business. “We have worked as a government to remove bottlenecks to encourage investments in all sectors that will result to a win-win situation," the Minister said.

The meeting ended with both parties pledging to continue working in the best interest of the people of both countries.
