The Ministry of Health and NPHA, with support from JHPIEGO, successfully hosted Infodemic Management Training from 3rd–7th December 2024.
This initiative brought together 117 Call Centre Staff and District Focal Points, equipping them with the tools to detect, report, and respond to misinformation, rumours, and public concerns affecting public health.
Key Outcomes of the Training
Participants enhanced their skills in:
- Understanding the importance of social and community listening for behaviour change.
- Mastering accurate data collection and reporting techniques.
- Applying practical role-playing methods and collaborating with RCCE teams and district stakeholders to address and prevent misinformation.
Looking ahead, follow-up sessions will focus on strengthening the capacity of District One Health RCCE Actors, DSMCs, Agriculture Extension Workers, and Environmental Officers, supported by WHO. These efforts aim to bolster Sierra Leone’s emergency preparedness, prevention, and response systems.
The training was facilitated by experts from the OH RCCE Team, NPHA IT, and the UNICEF SBC team, showcasing strong multi-agency collaboration.
Collectively, we are building a resilient health communication system to combat misinformation and promote public health in Sierra Leone.
