In a significant advancement for educational technology in Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has signed a landmark contract for the procurement and distribution of 6,061 solar-powered tablets along with essential ICT accessories. This initiative is part of the Free Quality Education Project and aims to support the Teaching Service Commission (TSC) in transforming the teaching and learning landscape across the nation.
During a press conference today, the Minister of Basic Education emphasized the transformative potential of these devices, which are expected to arrive within 16 weeks. "This technology will make learning easier for students and help teachers and school administrators plan more effectively," the Minister stated, underscoring the project's critical role in enhancing educational quality.
A key highlight of this initiative is its commitment to inclusivity; students with disabilities will also benefit from the solar-powered tablets. The devices are designed to provide equal access to educational resources, bridging the gap for students facing challenges in traditional learning environments.
"This initiative marks a significant milestone for Sierra Leone. We have to succeed because this is a benchmark for all of us as a country," the Minister added, calling for collective efforts to achieve educational excellence.
With the introduction of these solar-powered devices, the Ministry aims to elevate the learning experience, empowering teachers and students with the necessary tools to meet modern educational needs. This project is expected to enhance classroom learning, overall school management, and long-term educational planning, reinforcing the importance of integrating technology into the education system.
