Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Rolls Out Plans for 2025

.The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) and its affiliated agencies unveiled their strategic plans for 2025 at an official event held at the Ministry’s Pavilion. The event, which included a Pitch Night, brought together key partners and stakeholders to discuss the Ministry’s vision for the year.

In her keynote address, Honourable Minister Nabeela Farida Tunis emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to promoting and preserving Sierra Leone’s cultural and natural heritage. She highlighted that 2025 has been declared the “Year of Ecotourism” to raise awareness and increase local and international tourist visits.

Minister Tunis explained that ecotourism, as defined by the International Ecotourism Society, involves responsible travel to natural and cultural sites, environmental conservation, community well-being, education, and sustainability. She noted that throughout the year, the Ministry will launch activities designed to showcase Sierra Leone’s cultural diversity and natural attractions while ensuring increased visitation compared to the previous year.

“It is our wish and approach to keep our people at the centre of Sierra Leone’s touristic and cultural landscape,” Minister Tunis affirmed.

Tourism for All Campaign and Private Sector Engagement

Director Mohamed Jalloh of the Tourism and Travel Exchange Programs presented an overview of the 2024 Tourism for All Campaign, highlighting its successes and the Ministry’s objectives for 2025. With 2025 declared the Year of Ecotourism, he encouraged private sector participation, emphasising the importance of public-private partnerships in achieving national tourism goals.

“We cannot do this all by ourselves; we need the private sector to support the public sector to achieve our goals,” Director Jalloh stated.

Stakeholder Contributions and Commitments

Several partners, including Rokel Commercial Bank and Tacugama Sanctuary, made presentations and pledged their support for the 2025 Year of Ecotourism initiative. Their commitment underscores the growing government and private sector collaboration in boosting Sierra Leone’s tourism industry.

The event concluded with cultural performances by the National Dance Troupe, showcasing the country’s rich artistic heritage.
