he Ministry of Communication, Technology and Innovation (MOCTI) has successfully concluded a three-day workshop focused on developing an e-government legal and regulatory framework. The workshop, which began on October 30 and ended today, was held at the Civil Service Training College and brought together participants from various government ministries, departments, and agencies.
E-government, the central topic of the workshop, refers to the use of information technology (IT), information and communication technologies (ICTs), and web-based telecommunications to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of public sector service delivery. This approach aims to streamline interactions between government entities, citizens, and businesses while promoting transparency, accountability, and accessibility within government institutions.
The Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation, Madam Salima Monorma Bah, highlighted the importance of digital transformation in government, emphasizing that it must be integrated across all sectors. She explained that a unified digital architecture is essential for synchronizing government data and creating an e-government portal. This single, secure online platform will facilitate public access to digital services. "A holistic digital structure will allow us to provide services through a single website, enhancing transparency and accountability," Minister Bah stated.
Abubakar Samu, one of the workshop participants, underscored the benefits of e-government in bridging the gap between technology and citizens. "E-government will save time and resources and streamline government operations," Samu remarked. He encouraged Sierra Leoneans to embrace digital transformation, noting that it is vital for the nation’s progress.
This workshop is a significant step in the government's commitment to advancing digital services, ensuring that Sierra Leone remains on a path to efficient, modern governance that meets the needs of its citizens.
