The ECOWAS Community Levy Mission, through the ECOWAS National Office, concluded a briefing session with key stakeholders from the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development (MoPED), the Ministry of Finance, and Customs at the MoPED Conference Hall.
The session, led by Komba Momoh, focused on assessing Sierra Leone’s compliance with the ECOWAS Community Levy, an essential mechanism for funding regional activities and strengthening economic integration.
Presenting the findings, Moïse Appolès Thera commended the government of Sierra Leone for making significant progress in adhering to community levy protocols. However, he stressed the need for more proactive policies to enhance transparency and accountability in the levy’s implementation.
Representatives from the Finance Ministry and Customs highlighted the necessity for more substantial legislative and political commitment among ECOWAS member states to address existing challenges.
Minister Barlay reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s dedication to upholding ECOWAS protocols, assuring the delegation of the government’s steadfast commitment to regional collaboration and governance reforms.
